Large contact pictures in iPhone

I just tried a Facebook app that automatically fetches pictures and birthday dates from Facebook and profile pictures. Thing about this app is that it “downgrades” any eventual full sized contact photos you are already using. I think it’s pretty much an undocumented, the fact that if you use a large photo within the iPhone to set a picture for a contact – it will fill the screen instead of just showing a small thumbnail to the upper right.

Display the Date and Week on the Menubar in Leopard

I have been looking for a way to show the date in the menubar of Mac OS X Leopard. I found a couple of guides, including this one over at Lifehacker and I just could not get it to work. Finally I found a tip from the last comment that I had to enable “seconds” for the clock in order to get this to work. Now finally I got it to work.

Not only does it now show the date it also shows the current week which means I can get rid of the widget I had been using for this purpose.…

Macbook Pro with Swedish Keyboard layout

I’ve had my Macbook Pro now for a while and ever since I got it basically from the US I have been wondering how to enter the < sign or the > sign. Today I found it by mistake. It’s the tilde sign located to the left of nr 1. Hoppas det har hjalper for de som precis som jag kopt sin Macbook/Macbook Pro i USA och sitter med svenskt tangentbordslayout installd pa ett keyboard som ar amerikanskt.

Nu kan jag skriva < och > nar jag vill.…

Add AVI MKV or other file formats into iTunes

The simplest way to add basically any file format into iTunes is to make sure you have the developer tools installed (it comes with your Mac OS X cd) and just go to the directory of your movie/audio files and do this (in this example I’ve gone into the directory where I have a ton of MKV files):

SetFile -t “MooV” -c “TVOD” *.mkv   

Then Mac OS X will identify the files as Quicktime movies. Other than that, nothing has changed, it’s still MKV files, we still need Perian installed to play the files/be able to use the codecs.…

Howto: Apple Wireless Keyboard and PS3

If you just like me want to use your shiny Apple Wireless Keyboard, Alu version with your Playstation 3 (PS3) and you, just like me had trouble getting it to work. Ie, if you are receiving this error:

An error has occured during the register operation.
Try to register again.

And you get an errorcode, either 8001000 or 80110301

How to do it:

  1. First of all make sure you have the latest firmware
  2. Now, either unpair the keyboard on your macs in System Preferences OR unplug a battery from the wireless keyboard, leave it hanging for some 10-30 sec and then put it back in – voila – no more errors and the pairing on the PS3 will work flawless.

Safari 3 Leopard adblock

I have been looking for an adblocking solution for Safari 3 final version (the version shipped with Leopard) for quite some time now. Any day now Pithhelmet is going to get updated and this will be a moot point but until then I just cant stand all the ads and I really like the speed of Safari.

After trying many solutions like PlugSuit, Privoxy and even a host file solution I find that the best current adblocking is done via a CSS file.…

TwonkyMedia Mac Ps3

Finally! I got my Mac to work with Twonky and my Playstation 3. After having heaps of access denied and other problems.

First of all I updated the firmware to 1.90 on the PS3. The firewall on the Mac needs to be off or you need to configure open ports (if you want to do that, go ahead and Google it up). You need to turn on Sharing in iTunes and you need to enable personal file sharing for the Mac.…
